ELKMONT 1 FINISHES SEASON

A loss should never feel like a win, but there were lots of smiles in the Elkmont 1 (9/10) huddle following last night's 30-20 shortfall against Giles County, TN. Seeded fifth behind a host of undefeated teams and East 1, Giles County had won the league Christmas tournament in an impressive fashion and was highly favored in the contest against 12th seeded Elkmont.

Josh Burrows' layup off of Blake Brown's control of the opening jump ball let Giles County know that the Red Devils meant business, and it wasn't going to be the one-sided affair that many expected. Elkmont's best defensive game of the season kept the otherwise explosive Giles County fast break offense in check. Jedidiah Sutherland led a balanced scoring attack with seven points, followed by Burrows and Colby Murphy chipping in five each, a bucket by Brown, and Jobey Pugh hitting a free throw. Giles County moves on to play Blue Springs in the second round of the tournament.

Undefeated, second-seeded Elkmont 2 plays its first tournament game today. Go Red Devils!

ELKMONT 1 FINISHES REGULAR SEASON

Elkmont 1 (9/10) lost a heart breaker to Ardmore 1 on Saturday with a final score of 21-16.  Josh Burrows and Jedidiah Sutherland led the Red Devils with six points each, and Blake Brown chipped in four.

One hour later, Elkmont 1 toughed out a makeup game against third-ranked East Limestone 1 with the same intensity that it played its first game that day.  However, East Limestone's inside game was too much for the Red Devils, resulting in a 34-19 victory for the Indians. The Red Devils were led by Sutherland's 13 points. Brown scored three, while Burrows scored two and Hunter Hasting hit one from the foul line.

Elkmont 1 finished its regular season at 4-6 and is 12th seed in the tournament. The Red Devils play 5th seeded Giles County at 7:30 on Tuesday; the tournament is hosted by Owens Elementary.

ELKMONT 1 UPSETS EAST LIMESTONE IN CLOSE GAME

Elkmont 1 (9/10) went into yesterday's game knowing that East Limestone is always tough - especially on their home court.  But, the Red Devils began to believe an upset was possible when they led 8-3 after the first quarter.

Strong rebounding by Blake Brown and Colby Murphy triggered point guard Jedidiah Sutherland's 15 fast break points as Elkmont 1 upended East Limestone 3 by a final score of 22-19.  When East Limestone rallied in the fourth quarter to trim Elkmont's lead to three, the Red Devils played smart basketball,  showing a confidence and swagger that sent the message that they would not be denied.

Elkmont 1 has two games next Saturday to end the regular season, playing Ardmore 1 at 1:00 pm and East Limestone 1 in a makeup game at 3:00 pm.
