ELKMONT BOYS AT LINDSAY LANE

The Elkmont Red Devils started their 2018-19  season at Lindsay Lane Christian Academy.   In the last game of the night, varsity boys tipped off against the Lions.  Lindsay Lane led 21-12 after the first quarter but Elkmont controlled the second with a 19-10 run. Senior guard Davis Hobbs led the change and finished with 27 points on 9-of-15 shooting. He made six of his nine three-point attempts, including a buzzer beater at the end of the half.

Hobbs recently rejoined the team after playing football all season. Elkmont finished its football season Friday, and Hobbs was in the gym Saturday working with the team.
“He’s one of our senior leaders,” Elkmont coach Eric Smith said. “We look to him to lead us. He had a good year for us last year.”

Coming out of halftime, Elkmont jumped out to a 10-point lead, but Murr led the Lions back with a nine-point surge to pull Lindsay Lane within one at the end of the third quarter. Elkmont and Lindsay Lane battled throughout the fourth quarter.  However, the Red Devils came up short at the buzzer, losing 68-61

The Elkmont JV boys team came away with a season opening win.

ELKMONT GIRLS WIN BIG IN SEASON OPENER

Elkmont girls 68, Lindsay Lane 35
Elkmont girls basketball started off the season on a strong note with a dominant 33-point win over the Lions. The Red Devils were led by Haven Kirby, who scored 16 points while also putting up seven assists and six rebounds. Maggie Gant also had a big night for Elkmont, scoring 15 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Elkmont dominated almost every portion of the game.

Elkmont coach Sam Wallace was not sure how his team would perform. He believes the emphatic win will help this team build confidence.
“Our program needs this,” Wallace said. “They don’t think they’re good, but they are good. They’re my kids, and I love them.”

GOLD COMES TO ELKMONT

The championships of the West Limestone Tipoff Tournament were held last night.  Both of our middle schools were in the finals, playing against Clements.  The Lady Devils were first out of the gate, collecting another win by three points and some championship hardware.

Our Red Devils squared off against the Colts in the second game of the night.   With scores in the forties, Elkmont stretched out the lead by five points, 47-42 for the win.

Look for great seasons from both of these teams.  They will be on the court again next week with games at East Limestone, November 8.
