ELKMONT HAS ANOTHER CHAMPION
I am pleased to introduce everyone to the 2015 9 & 10 Girls County Champions:
Meridith Christ, Alexis Worthey, Topanga Suggs, Alyssa Harwell, Morgan Morris, Halee Bentley, & Macee Bentley.
These young ladies have more heart and determination than anyone I have known. They are coached by one of the greatest men I have met. He doesn't teach or coach that playing basketball is only about winning. He teaches them it is all about team work, playing from the heart, and setting goals to work toward.
Every since the very first practice, these girls became more like sisters than friends. They made it known that they were a team and set out with the goal of becoming County Champions. Every single practice leading up to the first game, the girls worked like they were in a real game. They were willing to learn new things and to improve on or get rid of old habits. By the first game of the season, they were ready to play.
In our first season game, November 15th, our girls showed no sign of nerves. They
came on the court with smiles on their faces and a determination in their eye that they, as a team, was going to defeat anyone in front of them. They have done just that. These young ladies showed everyone how to play the game from the heart, as a team. They had an awesome season, winning all of their games except one. They lost the last regular season game by a few points against West Limestone 1 Even with this loss, the girls still held their heads high with a smile.
As a team they wanted to play in the Christmas Tournament hosted by West Limestone. And yes, there was a goal set once again and these ladies were determined to get that first place trophy. As the tournament started, they quickly noticed that the other teams were getting better and they would have to step up their game. Our Elkmont Lady Devils did this and more and came out on top with a first place trophy that is now displayed in the lunch room.
Their post season tournament hosted by Tanner proved to be a tough one as all the others teams came ready to play. Winning this tournament was what they had worked for since the first practice and they were ready.
The first game was against Creekside 2, with a victory of 34-7. They geared up in the second game to play against the one team that had defeated them, West 1. The Lady Devils showed up with a vengance, they would show West just how good they were. Elkmont ended that game with a win of 16-13.
They went into Saturday to play against West 2 in the semi finals. These girls came to play but the Elkmont girls wanted it more to get a win of 21-8.
Now here we are at the final game for the County Championship, Elkmont vs. Tanner. Our girls were hyped and ready to roll. Playing great defense, they were crowned the county champions with the final score, 27-1.
Now I am just a parent on the sidelines, but I know from watching these young ladies weekly how they improved and listened to the coach. They responded and showed him in the games how much they had learned. Thank you, Coach Ron Christ, for investing your time and energy with our girls. You are a great person and coach. Our girls will carry with them the life lessons you taught them.
Elkmont 1 has added a few players from the county. They will be playing in a tournament scheduled for the weekend of February 27-28 in Florence, AL.

It was a great season and each team member played hard. They were able to close out most of their games with eleven out of 14 games decided by ten points or less.
ELKMONT GIRLS FINISH WITH UNDEFEATED RECORD
The 7 & 8 Elkmont 1 girls team ran the table this season. Beating every team during regular season and then stepping it up to win the county tournament is extremely difficult. These young Lady Red Devils accomplished something that few teams do.
THOUGHTS FROM THE STANDS:
The girls finished with an undefeated 13-0 season. They worked hard and showed that "team" meant thinking about each other as well as winning a game. Watching them play was an inspiration, an example of how to lift each other up in times of trial.
Elkmont 1 carried themselves with class after each win. They thanked not only the team and coaches but always shook the referees hands and thanking them. These girls have made their parents proud and have represented their community well.
