RED DEVILS LOSE TO WILDCATS

Elkmont dropped its first game of the year at West Limestone, 60-48.  The Red Devils started the game strong by taking an 11-0 lead on a basket by Cole Glass and 3 three-point baskets by Daniel Logan.  Soon after, foul problems forced both Glass and Logan to the bench.  Both played minimal time in the second half before fouling out.  Without its two main post players, the Wildcats dominated inside.  Elkmont’s record drops to 5-1.

Observations:
The West Limestone loss reveals some positives and negatives for the Red Devils.  On the positive side, Elkmont played hard the whole game and never gave up.  They also came to play and got off to a great start.  On the negative side, lack of size, and foul trouble are going to be weaknesses all year.  These weaknesses can be overcome by better outside shooting and improving on other aspects of the game as the season progresses.

The Dust Devil has played, coached and watched basketball his whole life.  Despite constant complaining by coaches, players and fans, seldom do referees influence the outcome of a basketball game.  Friday night was one of those rare occurrences.  At key times, touch fouls were called on Glass and Logan that were not called on the other end of the floor.  After watching the plays several times on tape, three of the four fouls that sent them to the bench in the first half were invisible.  West Limestone is an excellent team and may have won the game anyway, but clearly the referees tried to influence the game when Elkmont got off to a big lead to begin the game.  Hopefully, the Red Devils will get a neutral whistle when the Wildcats visit Elkmont, Jan. 13.

Prediction:
Elkmont bounces back Friday night at West Morgan.  The Dust Devil predicts the Red Devils will play well and earn a hard fought area win over the Rebels.
