ELKMONT RED DEVILS BEAT ARDMORE IN DOUBLE OVERTIME

What a game!! Elkmont wins in double overtime.  The Elkmont gym was the place to be last night for high school basketball; hard nosed basketball, comebacks, technicals, electric atmosphere and overtimes, everything was there for an exciting game.  The Red Devils overcame a 14 point deficit late in the third quarter and went toe to toe through two overtimes to win, 78 - 70.

The game was hopping before the tip-off as the student pep sections from both schools got warmed up.  Elkmont's crew had declared Super Hero night and Batman and Captain America made an appearance to cheer the Red Devils on.  Cole Glass got the opening tip and Elkmont quickly put up a 12-5 lead.  Ardmore took advantage of Glass's second foul, with the following technical that sent the center to the bench for the rest of the first half, to turn it around and by halftime had the lead 26 - 21.

The third quarter saw the Red Devils slip even further. With 2:20 left in the quarter, it was looking grim for Elkmont as Ardmore pulled away 40 -26.   Cole Glass stole the ball and raced down the floor for a killer 2 handed, hang on the rim dunk as the Elkmont Crew went wild.  With new life, the gym in an uproar, Elkmont went on a 9-2 run, capped by a 35 footer at the buzzer by Daniel Logan, making it 42-35.  The Red Devils continued to slice into the lead in the 4th quarter with Hayden Huseth tossing in three straight 3 pointers to put Elkmont ahead 51- 48.  At 2:11,  it was looking good for the Devils but they weren't able to close the game out as they only hit 5 out 10 freethrows.  Jack Blair - #14, hit a three with 24 seconds to put Ardmore back in the game.  The buzzer sounded on the fourth quarter with the scored tied 60 - 60.

First overtime:  defensive struggle, neither team scored until Ardmore scored with 20 seconds to go putting the Tigers up by 2.  As the clock ticked down, the Devils ran a play with 3.9 seconds that had Logan lob the ball to Glass who spun to the basket, scoring as time ran out, 62 - 62.

Second overtime:  Elkmont got off to a early lead on another three point shot and Cole Glass went to work and added 4 points, controlling the paint.  The Red Devils did a better job hitting the free throws down the stretch.  Glass finished the game by sinking two free throws (his eyes were closed on the second shot); putting a hard fought game into the win column for Elkmont, 78 -70.

Leading scorers for Elkmont were Daniel Logan with 26, Cole Glass with 20 and Hayden Huseth with 15.  Special recognition must go to Jack Blair (#14) of Ardmore who scored over half of the Tigers points with 36.  He hit an amazing 7 of 10 three pointers.  The Red Devils didn't shoot that well and couldn't seem to stop Blair but they were determined not to lose and finished up the regular season with a 18-9 record.  They will host the Area 15 tournament starting Friday.  The Red Devils will play Danville in the second game at 7:30 pm.  The Lady Devils will play at 6 pm, Thursday at Clements.  They will meet the host team the Clements' Lady Colts.
