ELKMONT SHOOTING WOES CONTINUE

Elkmont men's varsity team continues to struggle as they lose to West Limestone, 45-31.  Subpar shooting and an ineffective offense doomed the Red Devils to another 30 point game.  A men's varsity team can not win scoring in the 30s.  Elkmont was in the game at the end of the first quarter, 9-11.  When West Limestone saw their two big men go to bench in foul trouble in the second quarter, it looked like a golden opportunity for the Red Devils to pick up the pace, get more rebounds, go to a transition game and take advantage of having the only starting big guy on the floor.  However, Elkmont wasn't able to rack up points on West Limestone's weakened interior defense and smaller line up.   The first half ended with West Limestone having a even greater lead, 25-16.


Elkmont came out in the second half trying to recover from a dismal first half by going back to a faster pace game but after the poor performance in the last two games was out of sync and not able to rekindle the offense.  They continued to play hard and played good defense throughout the game, holding the Wildcats to 45 points but weren't able to find the basket and it cost them a chance to be in position to pull off an upset.  Again, not much to put in the positive column but it was encouraging to see them play with an intensity and energy in the fourth quarter that has been missing all week.  Ranked #7 at the beginning of the week, the Red Devils have definitely gone into a slump and have put together a sub par offensive performance for 10 quarters straight this week.   Elkmont has 3 weeks to find their game before the Area tournament.   Hopefully, they will regain their form next week with games at East Limestone and at home vs West Morgan.
